Months after relocation, West Columbia buffet appears to have closed again

Posted

A West Columbia buffet restaurant that closed abruptly shortly after opening last year and then popped up in a new home appears to be closed again.

Olde Country Buffet — which reopened at 1211 Sunset Blvd., taking a spot previously occupied by JackSon's Southern Kitchen in a small strip mall — has been closed for at least a month, a neighboring business confirmed to the Chronicle.

During the restaurant’s regular lunch hours Oct. 27, the space appeared deserted. There was a handwritten sign taped to the door with the message “MEDICAL EMERGENCY” in all caps.

The neighboring business told the Chronicle that around the time Olde Country Buffet ceased operation, an ambulance was seen responding to the restaurant.

The buffet’s previous location in the Food Lion-anchored Westland Square shopping center (which sits about a mile and half down Sunset Boulevard/U.S. Highway 378) closed with little fanfare earlier this year.

The restaurant served a variety of country-style meats and vegetables, available via buffet or as plated meals, and was open for lunch and dinner with the addition of breakfast service listed as coming soon on Olde Country’s website.

As it has since at least March, the website lists intentions to add two locations in Columbia, as well as outposts in Hilton Head, Maryland and West Virginia.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
