River Bluff High junior Divija Viswabrahmana was recently named a PalmettoPride Youth Ambassador. Viswabrahmana is among 16 students selected statewide from nearly 200 applicants.
Viswabrahmana is an Eagle Scout candidate who has rallied fellow Scouts to join the Lakeside Litter Sweep on Lake Murray. She has volunteered more than 60 hours at the Lexington Main Library and is a certified yoga teacher. This year, she plans to bring anti-litter campaigns to schools across Lexington County School District One.
“I really look forward to inspiring other South Carolina youth to take ownership of keeping our communities clean,” Viswabrahmana said in a Lexington School District One news release.
With more Gen Z adults moving to South Carolina than to any other state, PalmettoPride is preparing young South Carolinians to lead the way in keeping the state clean and beautiful. Now in its fifth year, the Youth Ambassador program offers participants a $1,000 scholarship, community service hours and professional development opportunities.
Over the coming months, ambassadors will take part in regular training and networking sessions, represent PalmettoPride at community events, plan and lead local litter cleanups and lead outreach that promotes civic pride and environmental stewardship across South Carolina.
