For the third time in four years, the Lake Murray Tipoff Classic final will feature a “Teacher vs. Pupil” coaching matchup.
Lexington High School secured a berth in Friday’s 4 p.m. final with a 68-39 win over Palmetto. Mason Carver led the Wildcats (3-0) with 19 points and Bradley Foulks added 10 as they outscored the Mustangs 40-23 in the second half.
Awaiting head coach Bailey Harris at home is White Knoll, coached by former Lexington co-captain Devin Liferidge. The Timberwolves defeated Airport 70-47 to also improve to 3-0 on the season.
A year ago, fellow co-captain Ben Lee led River Bluff to victory at the Lake Murray Tip-off against Lexington. Back in 2014, former White Knoll head coach and former Wildcat Jason Cochcroft led the Timberwolves to the tournament title win over his alma mater.
Ironically, Palmetto is coached by Wes Clarke, a starter on Harris’ 2000 Class 4A championship team at Lexington.
In other action, Burke defeated Strom Thurmond 58-47 to advance to the third place game. The Bulldogs will face Fairfield Central, which defeated Columbia 54-52.
