River Bluff Wins on Walkoff, Dutch Fork and Chapin Advance in Boys Lacrosse Playoffs

The surging River Bluff baseball team won in dramatic fashion Wednesday in The Swamp.

A wild pitch scored the go-ahead win in the 5-4 victory over Chapin. Despite the streak of scoreless innings pitched come to an end, the Gators (17-4, 6-2) won their fifth straight game and 11th in the past 12.

More important, River Bluff moved within ½ game of Lexington for first place in Region 5-5A. The Wildcats return to action Thursday at home against Dutch Fork.

Chapin had a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Gators responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Eagles mounted a three-run rally of their own in the top of the fourth. The game remained tied until River Bluff’s rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Todd Hudson went 2-3 with a home run and Beau Hollins had an RBI for the Gators. Andrew Vaughan pitched two innings in relief of starter Zach Cowart to pick up the victory.

Gray Wells had a home run and struck out four in 6 1/3 innings for the Eagles. J.P. Hornick had a two-run double in the loss.

The third game of the series is set for Friday at Chapin.

Airport 3, White Knoll 2

Hunter Epps’ two-run single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Eagles the non-region victory.

John Paul Forrester went 2-3 with a home run and struck out eight for the victory.

Levi Dunn went 2-3, including a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the sixth inning.

Airport (16-5) returns to action Tuesday at Spring Valley.

Tuesday’s Games

Gilbert 15, Swansea 0 (5 innings)

Jackson Lineberry struck out eight and allowed no hits and had two RBI for the defending Class 3A champion Indians.

Whitt Rucker, Jake Torbett and Branson Price also all drove in two runs and Cooper Burkett had two hits and an RBI for Gilbert.

The Indians (13-6, 4-3) play host to Swansea Friday.

Northside Christian 11, Robert E. Lee Academy 9

Andy Gwynn’s walkoff two-run double capped a six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth for the Crusaders.

Robert McMillan tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double. He finished 4-5 with six RBI.

David Lee Clamp picked up the win for Northside Christian (9-6), who play host to Calhoun Academy Friday.

Chapin 7, Blythewood 5

St. James 13, Lexington 11

The top-seed Eagles will play host to St. James Saturday in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Dutch Fork 7, Carolina Forest 2

Wando 18, River Bluff 3

The Silver Foxes will travel to Wando Saturday for the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Marlena Perez struck out 13 and the Lady Timberwolves capitalized off six Lady Gator errors for the victory.

Ty Porterfield went 2-4 and Keira Motley had an RBI for the Lady Timberwolves.

Batesburg-Leesville 11, Ridge Spring-Monetta 3

Audreyona Rodgers struck out 15 batters and Riley Bouknight and Jeslyn Boehnke both went 4-5 with an RBI to lead the Lady Panthers.

Jayme Sheaffer went 3-5 with three RBI and Amie Johnson drove in two runs for Batesburg-Leesville (10-7, 5-2l), who play host to Saluda Friday.

Chapin 12, A.C. Flora 2

Ella Majchrzsk struck out 11 and she and Andee Dircks each drove in two runs to lead the Lady Eagles.

Both Aspen Mayers and Nicole Stockwell both went 3-5 and Taylor Palfrey was 2-3 with an RBI for Chapin.

Gilbert 12, Strom Thurmond 5

Tara Dorgan went 3-5 with three RBI, Taylor Dreher went 2-3 with a home run and three runs scored and Peyton Melinauskas was 2-5 with two RBI to lead the Lady Indians.

Emily Melinauskas went 3-3 for Gilbert (15-3, 7-1), who play host to Swansea Friday.
