Swansea woman and her father charged after restaurant parking lot shooting

Posted

A woman was arrested for shooting another woman during an altercation in a Swansea restaurant parking lot, while her father was arrested for pointing a gun at the victim’s mother.

According to a release from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, which states the department was asked to investigate by the Swansea Police Department, the shooting took place the night of July 27 in a parking lot along W 3rd Street, which runs through the heart of the small municipality’s downtown.

Stephanie Lynn Brown, 40 of Swansea, is accused of shooting the victim, who was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to Swansea Police and provided arrest warrants.

The sheriff’s department reports that the injury to the victim isn’t life-threatening.

Swansea Police report the altercation stemmed from an earlier dispute at the same location.

“Deputies responded to a call after hearing shots fired in a restaurant parking lot,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. “Detectives determined Stephanie Brown fired shots at the victim after speaking with multiple witnesses.”

According to arrest warrants, the suspect’s 66-year-old father, David Lee Brown of Swansea, was seen on surveillance footage pointing the gun his daughter used at the victim’s mother during an altercation. He then handed the gun back to Stephanie Brown, at which point she shot the victim.

According to a provided incident report from a sheriff’s deputy who arrived on scene just before 9:30 p.m., a witness said he observed multiple people fighting next to a vehicle in the restaurant parking lot.

Arrest warrants state that Stephanie Brown pointed the gun at several people before shooting the victim.

She is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and pointing and presenting firearms at persons. Stephanie Brown was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center, where she remains, having been denied bond.

David Brown is charged with pointing and presenting firearms at persons and was released on bond.

The incident report additionally notes that Swansea man Randall Secarr Nelson, born in 1977, was also taken into custody.

Per the report, Nelson said he came to the scene after his daughter called to tell him she was at Swansea Police headquarters. After talking with him, officers discovered he had an active bench warrant.

According to court records, Nelson was charged with grand larceny (value of $10,000 or more) in 2019, with the case status listed online as “failure to appear.” A bench warrant issued pursuant to the case was vacated July 28.
