Posted

A West Columbia resident was charged with attempted murder, accused of shooting into a car full of people Aug. 3.

Markelle Da’Shaun Rogers, 23, was arrested Aug. 7 by Lexington County deputies and faces three counts of attempted murder, two counts of discharging a firearm at a vehicle and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, a release states.

"Based on the information detectives have gathered and confirmed, Rogers fired multiple shots at a car after a fight in a convenience store parking lot in the 200 block of Longs Pond Road early Thursday morning," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release. "It all started when the shooting victims said they were blocked in by another car at a gas pump."

According to the release Rogers and two women were in the other car, the two women got out and started to fight the people in the other car. When the fight was over, Rogers allegedly shot at the other car as it drove away, with multiple rounds hitting the car.

Following his arrest, Rogers was taken to Lexington County Detention Center, where he remained as of Aug. 8.

The release notes the U.S. Marshalls Service assisted in Rogers’ arrest.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
