A S.C.-based Korean chain is set to fill an anchor spot at a Harbison-area shopping center.
Signs have gone up for Burnin 99, a “Korean BBQ Hotspot” that started with a location in North Charleston. The restaurant is set to bring a Columbia outpost to the former Wild Wing Cafe location in the Columbiana Station complex along Bower Parkway.
Located in the largest segment of the shopping center that also has buildings along Harbison Boulevard, Burnin 99 will move into a stretch that includes the British Bulldog Pub, Miyo’s, Kiki’s Chicken & Waffles, and the Columbiana Grande movie theater.
No opening date has been announced, and Burnin 99 hasn’t yet responded to the Chronicle’s requests for comment.
In the past couple weeks, work has continued outside and inside the space, as a banner announcing the location has been replaced by permanent signage.
“Burnin 99 is an all-you-can-eat authentic Chinese hot pot and Korean BBQ restaurant,” the restaurant’s website states. “We offer 6 choices of hot pot broths, which serve as perfect soup bases for 45 different kinds of fresh vegetable and meat.
“Burnin 99 is a place that can bring you great fulfillment and endless enjoy. Join us at one of our locations, our outstanding food, service and atmosphere will exceed your expectations.”
The chain has also announced plans for a third location in Greenville, N.C.
Burnin 99 isn’t the only hot-pot-emphasizing restaurant that is targeting the Harbison area.
KPot, a national chain that has expanded rapidly since opening its first location in 2018, is set to bring a location to 280 Harbison Blvd., a spot that has previously housed a Krab Hut and a Chili’s.
“Kpot is a unique, hands-on, all-you-can-eat experience that merges traditional Asian hot pot with Korean BBQ flavors,” the restaurant’s website states.
That location along with a second Midlands location at the Village at Sandhill in northeast Columbia are both listed as “coming soon” on the KPot website.
“As of now, we have no exact date of opening of that location,” a KPot spokesperson told the Chronicle, “but we are hoping to be open real soon! All new location openings will be announced on our FB and IG, stay tuned!”
