Lexington, Gilbert players excel on the field to win Athlete of the Week

Posted

The winners of this week’s Athlete of the Week vote helped their team capture important conference wins.

The athletes from Lexington and Gilbert poured in points and put their team in a position to compete for a region crown later in the season.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Hudson Wood

Lexington lacrosse’s Hudson Wood helped the Wildcats earn two wins last week, both against region opponents.

Wood began last week with a four-goal game against Dutch Fork. His total led the team as Lexington escaped with a 10-9 win.

The senior scored a goal in the team’s second game last week against Chapin. The Wildcats again narrowly came out with a win, beating the Eagles 11-9 to preserve their undefeated region record.

Wood and the Wildcats are back in action this week with three games — two at home against River Bluff and A.C. Flora and one on the road versus White Knoll.

Kinlee Mozley

Gilbert soccer star Kinlee Mozley earned Athlete of the Week after guiding Gilbert to a win in their lone game last week.

The senior had a hat trick and an assist to record seven points for the Indians as they defeated the Bearcats 7-1. She was searching for the net throughout the game, taking 11 total shots with five on goal.

The victory kept Gilbert locked in second place at 3-1 in its region. The team trails Dreher, who beat Gilbert 4-1 two weeks ago.

Mozley recorded her fourth hat trick this season against Brookland-Cayce. She had 18 goals and five assists entering this week with games scheduled against Camden, Orangeburg-Wilkinson and Swansea.
