Dutch Fork players sweep Athlete of the Week after clutch performances

Posted

This week’s winners of Athlete of the Week both come from Dutch Fork High School and had clutch performances to help deliver their team a win.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Will Puckett

Will Puckett was named Athlete of the Week after helping Dutch Fork’s lacrosse team defy the odds and advance to the state semifinals.

The Silver Foxes went 2-0 last week, beating Socastee and Lexington on the road in the playoffs. Puckett was a key contributor in both games.

Against Socastee, he had more than half of the team’s goals, scoring six of the 11 total. Puckett was accurate with his looks and took them often, throwing 11 shots toward the net, all on goal.

He had one goal against Lexington and scooped two ground balls to help the Silver Foxes beat the Wildcats for the first time this season.

Allie Boone

Allie Boone earned Athlete of the Week honors after hitting a walk-off homer for Dutch Fork against Chapin on her senior night.

Down one in the bottom of the eighth inning, Boone stepped to the plate. She let the first pitch fly by for a ball. The second, she swung for the fence but missed. She watched two more balls come through to put the count at 3-1.

With some breathing room on the next pitch, Boone ripped her bat across the plate, connected with the ball and sent it over the right field fence. The lone senior then took off around the bases for one of the last times in her career before being embraced by her younger teammates.

Boone also had a strong game earlier that week against White Knoll. She went 3-3 from the plate and had two RBIs in a 10-7 win. Dutch Fork will finish its regular season this week and will rely on Boone’s help to end on the right foot.
